This week on ANF, we'll feature the poetic works of one Lillian Cauldwell. Lillian was my former producer of the 'Chandra and Charles Presents' Show on InternetRadioVoices.com which she created this year and still going strong! She is quite the poet as you will find out from selected pieces I've picked from the stack she's given me. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. This particular poem is called Thief In The Night.
Thief in the Night
I can't see
what's behind your words,
taunting lies
or misrepresentations.
Colored facts,
outrageous statements
ugly brooding of
crude nicknames.
What are you trying
to tell me?
I don't understand
why you said that.
Defiant tones.
Racial comments.
Slurs upon our identity.
Ethnic mayhem
between our neighborhoods.
Sudden starts.
Abortive halts.
Raised fists
half drawn clubs
hidden guns
with pepper sprays
the can of worms spills.
Blood seeps through the cracks.
Soaks the pavements
and disappears from view.
All
because
of a few mis said words
consonants and vowels
taking a stand
rearing their heads
fanned out behind
the naked hood exposed,
foreign tongues uttered.
Fangs rip through flesh
man against brother.
The war of mass utterance begins.
A thief in the night
it steals
our promised freedoms
and liberties.
