In Memory: My aunt, The Dee

I'd like to offer a tribute to a very special person who left us recently, my aunt Delores. She was a talented poet and one of my favorite relatives. I feel numb writing this because I still can't believe she's not here anymore, but I'll always remember her.

Two years ago during our family reunion, she wanted to publish a book of her works that she shared with me. Unfortunately, we didn't make that happen and she left without seeing her dream realized. I want to share with you her poems, what I wanted to call "Words From The Dee". In the future, I plan on publishing the rest and honor it in her memory. She left so much for us, the family, and I'd like to share her heart with you. Thank you.

A Few More Years

When your eyes can't cry anymore,
and you only have a few months to go.

The doc has put a hurting on me,
it's so plain to see.

Then you want to fall on your knees,
and cry, "God Please! Please!"

God, I know that I'm ill,
and I know it will be your will,
only you know, when it's my time to go.

Jesus I'd like to smile again
and be rid of my fears,
all I'm asking for is just a few more years.

Honey Tree

If I could climb a honey tree,
to see if our love was meant for me.

I'd send an echo out so loud,
to get attention from the crowd.

The crowd would listen and hear me through,
and they can tell I still love you.

My love is still the same,
even though it ended in pain,
I swore I'd never love again.
